World Blood Donor Day 2021

14 June is World Blood Donor Day! This year’s theme is “Give blood and keep the world beating”. Blood donors contribute to processes that are live-saving and help maintain health, and the Day honours their commitment. The focus of 2021 is on young people: they have been at the forefront of voluntary blood donations and activities relating to the aggregation of blood supply.

World Blood Donor Day raises awareness of blood donation and acknowledges its significant value to the community. Moreover the day celebrates blood donors around the world who have contributed to the cause. An objective is to engage individuals, particularly the youth, in the practice of regular and unpaid blood donation.

In Hong Kong, you are eligible to donate blood if you:

  • Are in good health
  • Weigh 41kg or above (90lbs or above) and
  • Are aged 16-66
